Softball Team and Individuals Earn National Academic Recognition

LOUISVILLE - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced last week their list of teams and individuals who met high achievement standards both in the classroom and on the diamond.

The NFCA ranked the top 125 Division III programs by overall team GPA and recognized individuals who earned a 3.5 GPA or better during the 2016-17 academic year. The top programs were named NFCA All-Academic teams while individuals are named Division III Scholar Athletes.

For the first time in program history, North Central Softball was named an All-Academic team, finishing in 103rd place with a team GPA of 3.265 and was one of the three Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schools to make the list (Crown College, 84th and Minnesota Morris, 110th). Over 400 NCAA Division III institutions sponsor softball, ranking the Rams efforts in the classroom among the top quarter of all teams in the division.

In addition, six Rams were recognized as Division III Scholar Athletes: Abbey Erzberger, Brianna Griffin, Danelle Pageler, Alex Rodriguez, Amanda Roth, and Megan Wegner. An impressive 1,825 players in Division III earned a GPA over 3.5 during 2016-17.

Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.
