MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- A tough opponent and blustery winter conditions hampered North Central University Baseball in their season opening series over the weekend. The Rams were swept by Robert Morris University-Chicago in a set of games played at Rent One Field in Marion, Ill. Thursday, NCU will try to get back on track in a double-header to be played at the HHH Metrodome versus St. Olaf College.
The Rams dropped their season opener by a 13-0 count to Robert Morris University-Chicago (Chicago, Ill.) on Friday evening in cold and snowy conditions at Rent One Field (Marion, Ill.). Game two of a planned double-header was the victim of a weather cancellation on Friday night.
Saturday, NCU dropped both games in a double-header that was played in conditions that were just slightly better than the previous evening. The Rams lost game one by a 9-2 count. NCU got their first runs of the season in the top of the third inning when senior Ian Andrews (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) smacked a double to right field that scored sophomore Gary Ramos (Chicago, Ill./Forman) and freshman Cody Van Sickle (Machesney Park, Ill/Harlem).
Game two saw NCU overmatched by a 26-0 final score.
North Central will be back in action just a few blocks from home when they take the field at HHH Metrodome on Thurday evening. The Rams will be taking on St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minn.), an NCAA Division III opponent from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Conference.
The Oles are 2-0 on the year after sweeping Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.) by 5-4 and 4-3 scores in a double-header at the Metrodome on February 28.
First pitch between the Rams and Oles is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
