MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central University Baseball was swept in their final three double-headers of the year over the weekend. Thursday the Rams were defeated by Minnesota-Morris in Morris before being defeated by St. Scholastica on Friday and Northwestern College on Saturday. One of the bright spots was right handed pitcher Devin Lehnhoff reaching the career strikeout record in Satuday's game one versus Northwestern.
Thursday the Rams (1-24, 1-13) were defeated 17-5 and 19-9 by the University of Minnesota-Morris in Morris. In game one Senior Devin Lehnhoff (Ellendale, N.D./Ellendale) was 2-4 with an RBI. Freshman Cody Van Sickle (Machesney Park, Ill/Harlem) was also 2-4 with an RBI double. Senior Gary Ramos (Chicago, Ill./Foreman) was 1-1 with three walks and 2 RBI. Game two saw Van Sickle go 2-4 once again, with a double, a triple and 3 RBI. Freshman William Rosevear (Canton, Mich./Homeschool) was 2-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Junior Matt Reed (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) was 2-4 with a double. Ramos was 1-4 with an RBI triple. Junior Ian Andrews (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) was 1-2 with a double and two RBI.
Friday the Rams ran into the best team in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference in the College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) and it was a unfriendly affair with the Saints winning 14-0 and 41-2. In game one the Rams managed just three hits and committed five errors. Gary Ramos went 2-3 with a pair of doubles. Game two saw the Rams short roster wear down at the end of a long stretch of 12 games in nine days. NCU gave up 27 hits and an NCAA record 24 runs in a single inning in the loss. Devin Lehnhoff was 1-3 with an RBI and frsehman Joshua Core (Erwin, N.C./Triton) was 2-3 with an RBI.
The season finale had the Rams at Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.) where they were defeated 21-1 and 17-2. Freshman Nick Kelly (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson) was 2-3 and Senior Ben Freitag (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) was 1-3 with an RBI double in game one. In the bottom of the fourth inning Devin Lehnhoff got his only strikeout of the day on the mound to earn the Rams career strikout record. In game two Gary Ramos was 2-3 while Nick Kelly was 1-3 with an RBI.
Devin Lehnhoff will end his career as the Rams all time leader in strikeouts (78), starts (33), appearances (37) and complete games (19). Gary Ramos will end his college career with a .398 batting average (74-186) and 24 doubles, both North Central records.
