ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their post season awards for the 2017 season on Tuesday afternoon and a pair of Rams were awarded for their achievements at the ballpark. Cory Kukkola (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Kills) and Brandon Scott (Chicago, Ill./Timothy Christian) were given the UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention accolade. This is the second straight year Kukkola has been voted to UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention as he won last year for a standout freshman season in a Rams uniform.
Both Kukkola and Scott helped the Rams offense excel under new head coach, Justin Brown, and en route helped the Rams to a better record in 2017 than 2016. Scott led the team with a .357 batting average and good for seventh best in a conference. He also tallied the most runs batted in with 27 and secured 40 hits, nine doubles, and one home run which was a grand slam against Bethany Lutheran in the final home games of the year. Additionally, he received help from Kukkola who was second in batting average with .291 and recorded nine stolen bases. Kukkola racked up 32 hits, six doubles, and two triples from his time at the plate this season.
The conference also recognizes one team year year that exemplifies extraordinary sportsmanship towards opponents and North Central was awarded the Team Sportsmanship Award for 2017. Individually, Bryce Riege (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) was given the individual award for his display of high sportsmanship on the field.
