TUCSON, Ariz. – North Central University baseball concluded its spring trip with a doubleheader versus Wabash College Friday night. The two games were delayed about an hour due to the previous contest on the same field going long. Playing through sunset and under the lights, the Rams dropped both games by the scores of 8-1 and 11-5.
Game 1: The story of this game was the pitching of the Wabash Little Giants. Their starter pitched a complete game and held the Rams batters to four hits. Starting pitcher Junior Bryce Riege allowed 5 hits in 4 2/3 innings facing 25 batters. NCU kept it close through five innings at 4-1, but could get no closer as Wabash added a pair of runs in the 6th and 7th innings.
Game 2: The nightcap stayed close through the first four innings of the contest. The Rams tightened the game at 4-2 when Freshman Chris Harding hit a single into right center to drive home a run, and an error from Wabash 2nd baseman scored a second run later that inning. The Little Giants broke the game open in the 5th with a two run homer extending a growing lead to 10-2. Junior Robert Donohoe added a 3 RBI double in the 6th inning, but North Central could not mount a comeback. Starting pitcher Junior Andrew Kemper allowed four hits in 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.
The spring trip is now complete and the Rams will travel back home to Minnesota. The team will have a 17 day break before facing their next opponent, Crown College, on March 27.
