WATERTOWN, Wisc - North Central University men's basketball took on Maranatha Baptist University in a non-conference early season matchup in Wisconsin. Despite leading with less than a minute remaining in the game, the Rams were unable to hold off the Sabercats in regulation, before falling 105-97 in a high scoring overtime contest.
The matchup proved to be tightly contested with thirteen lead changes from tipoff to final buzzer. A made free throw from C.J. Lewis put the Rams up 90-88 with 31 seconds remaining in the game. Maranatha tied the game up at 90-90 with 14 seconds remaining in the game before a timeout from North Central. With two seconds left in regulation, C.J. Lewis narrowly missed a shot attempt off a drive in the paint. R.J. Medina of Maranatha hurled a nearly full court shot off the rim as the buzzer signaled the end of regulation.
Maranatha outscored the Rams 15-5 in the overtime period to seal the game in a non-conference matchup.
North Central shot 45.8 (33-for-72) from the field while shooting an impressive 55 percent (16-for-29) from three point range. The Rams had seven players in double figures on the night as Jared High led the way with 17 points while adding five rebounds. C.J. Lewis added 16 points while Riley Loukinen added 15 points while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc. Joel Cline recorded a double-double on the night with 14 points and 11 rebounds as he made his 2017-2018 debut after sitting out due to medical reasons in the first three games of the season. Freshman Lucas Ellerbusch added 12 points while going 4-for-6 from three point range on the night.
The Rams will be off tomorrow before continuing their road swing down to Chicago to take on Moody Bible Institute on saturday with 1:30 p.m. slated for tipoff. Their next home contest will be the first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup as the Rams host Martin Luther College on Wednesday night in downtown Minneapolis.
