ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn.-- Men's basketball went on the road on Saturday night and suffered lopsided loss to Crown College. The Storm defeated North Central, 87-63, at Wild Athletic Center.
North Central (6-13, 3-8 UMAC) fell behind early and struggled to keep up with Crown College, who shot a torrid pace throughout the game. Both teams fired .500 from the floor in the first half but the Rams were just 1-6 from behind the three point line with the Storm bombed NCU with 10 shots from deep to earn a 45-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Crown opened with a 7-0 run and the Rams never fully covered that surge. NCU shooting slummped to just .316 (12-38) over the final 20 minutes. The Storm continued to shoot .500 (15-30) and extended their lead to the final margin. On the night the Storm hit 14 three point field goals, two more than NCU attempted from downtown, with the Rams making just three.
Senior Joel Cline (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) led the Rams with 18 points along with five boards and four assists. Junior Jared High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) added 17 points with junior A.J. McGrew chipping (Maple Valley, Wash./Kennedy (Green River C.C.)) in 13 points and seven rebounds.
With his point total tonight, Jared High is now within one point of 1000 for his NCU career. He would be the 24th player in the history of NCU men's hoops to reach that milestone and the second player to accomplish the feat this season. Joel Cline scored his 1000th point earlier this season.
North Central will look to rebound next Wednesday with a trip to Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.). The Rams and Knights are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
