Rams and Eagles Fight to Draw; Boutouli Scores Brace

MINNEAPOLIS - North Central University Men's Soccer (5-7-4, 2-6-4 UMAC) and The University of Northwestern-St. Paul (9-5-3, 8-2-2) finished the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Regular Season in a double overtime thriller in which both team went home with a point in the 2-2 draw in Elliot Park. From the opening whistle both teams had their chances offensively but the defense for both teams stepped up to secure the draw. The Eagles outshot the Rams, 22-21, and recorded six corner kicks to the Rams four.

North Central applied the pressure early scoring in the 15th minute on a shot, save from Northwestern's Turner Main, and a rebound back into play that found the foot of Josue Boutouli (Lome, Togo/Eagan) for the go ahead goal. Northwestern equalized in the 39th minute of play putting the Rams and Eagles in all too familar territory. Two minutes later, the Rams would concede an own goal and give the Eagles a 2-1 lead going into halftime. Both the Ram and Eagles had their chances in the second half but Main and Chris Parker (Granstburg, Wis./Grantsburg) stepped up making saves left and right. However, in the 82nd the Rams would draw a foul in the box and earn a penalty kick. Boutouli calmly slotted the ball home past Main for his second goal of the game and second brace of the season (10/21 vs. Superior). In overtime both teams took their chances to earn a win but couldn't find the back of the net resulting in the fourth draw of the season for the Rams and second draw of the season against Northwestern.

Following this game, the Rams concluded their 2017 season with a 5-7-4 overall record and 2-6-4 record in the UMAC. The Rams are not eligable for post-season competition and will begin preparations for the nontraditional spring season and the 2018 season.
