MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central Men's Tennis is in just its fifth season of varsity competition but the program made many strides in 2013. The Rams earned fourth place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference along with their first berth in the conference post-season tournament. Tuesday the squad notched another first as one of its members received the program's first individual all-conference award.
Freshman Fabian Tunberg (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) was named as a first team All-UMAC selection as voted on by the conference coaches. Tunberg played in the top singles and doubles slot for the Rams in all 12 matches. He recorded the most individual victories in top singles play in Rams history and represented the team in the top spot in their first ever appearance in the UMAC post-season championship tournament.
Tunberg became just the second NCU Tennis Athlete to earn an all-conference award after Rachel Smith earned a women's All-UMAC award in 2011.
Joining Tunberg on the UMAC post-season awards list, Sophomore Sutton Rehwaldt (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) was named as the North Central represenative on the UMAC Individual Sportsmanship team. For the official UMAC press release click here.
