Sophomore Grahm Johnson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) turned in a second place finish in the shot put event on Saturday at an event hosted by St. John's University and the College of St. Benedict. His career-best, indoor mark of 15.30 meters (50-2.5) is also the best by a UMAC athlete this season by nearly two meters. The performance is also the ninth best in the NCAA Central Region and ranks 40th overall in all of Division III.
Johnson's previous personal best was 14.73 meters (48-4) set on January 27 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Winter Classic. He placed second at the 2017 UMAC Indoor Championship with a then career best 14.63 meters which currently ranks as the sixth-best performance in league indoor championship history.
This Friday Johnson will be back in action at the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minn.). The men's shot put is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
