WINONA LAKE, Ind.-- The track and field season concluded for Grahm Johnson last week at the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. In a field of NCAA Division II and NAIA athletes, Johnson earned a pair of top 10 performances including scoring in both the shot put and discus events and the second All-American award of his career.
Thursday's meet program included the discus event where Johnson came in seeded among the top seven performers. He would out-perform that ranking in the prelims, making the finals and eventually posting the third best mark of 46.96m (154-1) of the competition to make the podium and earn an NCCAA All-America finish.
Friday, Johnson was back in action in the shot put and where he was ranked among the top nine entries coming into the event. He would successfully advance to the finals and finished sixth overall with an outdoor season best toss of 14.90m (48-10).
Overall Johnson scored a total of nine points himself, allowing North Central to stand 15th of 23 teams competing in the championship. The all-American award is the second of Johnson's career after he was a surprise national champion in the 2017 NCCAA Championship meet in the shot put.
