Rams Bats Go Quiet on Day Three of the Spring Games

LEESBURG, Fla.-- Rams Softball was back in action on Thursday in the third of four double-headers during their spring break trip. North Central dropped both parts of a split double-header played at Sleepy Hollow Softball Complex including a 5-0 loss defeat to Emmanuel College and a 13-0 setback to Simpson College.

Game one saw the Rams load the bases in the top of the first frame but left all three runners stranded in an inning that would haunt the Rams the rest of the way. After working around a two-out double from the Saints, NCU kept Emmanuel off the board in the first. North Central went down in order in the top of the second and EC went on to take control of the game in their part of the inning.

A one-out walk and a pair of two-out singles loaded the bases before a bag clearing triple gave the Saints a 3-0 lead after two innings. EC added another run in the third after the Rams went down in order once again in their part of the frame. NCU was able to get a pair of base runners in the fourth with just one out but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat. Emmanuel would add their final run in the sixth and North Central went down quietly in their final two at bats.

Freshman Emma Bushey (Three Lakes, Wis./Three Lakes) took the loss, scattering five earned runs over ten hits with six strikeouts. Freshman Ellee Laws (Ogden, Iowa/Ogden) was 1-3 with a double. Freshman Emily Loop (Phelan, Calif./Phelan) and senior Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) were also 1-3 at the plate.

In game two, North Central struggled at the plate again and Simpson College (Indianola, Iowa) proved too much at the plate in a five inning loss for the Rams. NCU managed just one hit, a one-out single from junior Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) in the second that gave the Rams runners at first and second with one out but a pair of strikeouts shutdown the threat. After trailing just 2-0 after four full innings, a collection of fielding errors and timely hits by the Storm ran off 11 runs in top of the fifth to complete their win.

North Central will take Friday off before closing outh their spring break trip with another split double-header on Saturday. The Rams take on Lancaster Bible College (Lancaster, Pa.) at 12:30 p.m. (CST) before playing the Coast Guard Academy (New London, Conn.) at 2:30 (CST).
