LEESBURG, Fla.-- Rams softball closed their final day of action at The Spring Games with a double-header against Lancaster Bible College and the Coast Guard Academy. NCU defeated Lancaster in the opener before falling to Coast Guard in the late game.
In game one the Rams fell behind, 3-0, to Lancaster Bible College (Lancaster, Pa.) in the bottom of the third inning before responding with their offense. Senior Kylee Bommersback (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) knocked in a pair of runs with a single that tied it up at 3-0 through four innings. Freshman Ellee Laws (Ogden, Iowa/Ogden) got the Rams offense going in the fifth with a one-out single and was later driven in by a groundout RBI from junior Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill./Matea Valley).
After sending the Chargers away scoreless in the fifth, NCU plated three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Senior Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) blasted an RBI double, followed by Ellee Laws RBI single. Later in the inning Laws caught LBC in a failed run down attempt that allowed Roth to score from third. NCU silenced the opponent bats in the final two frames to finish the win.
Game two, the finale of the Rams spring break trip, saw NCU fall 16-2 to the Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) in six innings. The Rams struggled to stop the Bears offense throughout the game while managing just three hits of their own in the loss. Amanda Roth was 2-3 with an RBI in the loss.
The Rams will travel home on Sunday and begin recovery from an intense schedule of eight games in six days. NCU will host a series of games at the Plymouth Dome (Plymouth, Minn.) on March 15-16. Each day will feature a triple-header of games against Maranatha Baptist University (Watertown, Wis.), Finlandia University (Houghton, Mich.) and the University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.). Games are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. (CST) each day.
