ASHLAND, Wis. - North Central University women's basketball (9-12, 4-9 UMAC) defeated Northland College Lumberjills (3-19, 1-12 UMAC) on Wednesday night, 69-60, in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference matchup. This is the fourth straight win for the Rams after a series of conference and non-conference wins. In the win, three Rams scored double-figure points (Swanson, Bulthuis, and Honn).
In the first quarter, Northland jumped ahead 17-4 before a three-point jumper from Colleen Honn (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove) spurred the Rams comeback. North Central closed the Jills lead to seven in the second quarter before a series of missed shots and turnovers give Northland another large lead this time, 26-16 with four minutes left in the half. A made basket and foul on Ellee Laws (Washington, Iowa/Ogden) gave North Central the three point play and the momentum to close the half within seven points of Northland.
In the second half North Central opened with a 10-2 run over Northland to take the lead with six minutes left in the third quarter. A Jills layup tied the game at 39-39 before North Central went on another dominate 10-4 run to lead by four, 48-44. In the fourth, the Rams and Jills traded baskets most of the quarter before going up ten points on the Jills 64-54 with just over three minutes to play. North Central outscored Northland in three of the four quarters with the expection coming in the first ten minutes of play.
North Central will be back in action on Saturday night for Senior Night/Parent's Night at home versus The University of Minnesota-Morris. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Clark Danielson Gymnasium.
