MADISON, Wisc - North Central University volleyball was in action on Saturday in a non-conference triangular with Edgewood College and Marian University. The Rams fell to Marian 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, and 25-14). Later in the day, the Rams fell to Edgewood College 3-0 (25-17, 25-10, 25-15).
NORTH CENTRAL vs MARIAN
In the match against Marian, the Rams were led by a strong showing from sophomore middle blocker Emma Middendorf who recorded 11 kills in the match while also adding three digs. Bethany Wollman added seven kills and five digs. Senior, Ashley Kelzer recorded the highest kill percentage for the Rams in the match with a .312 percentage as she recorded six kills. Grace Haseltine and Bekah Johnson dished out 14 and 8 assists respectively. In the back row, Maddie Stocker and Grace Hart recorded 13 and 12 digs respectively to pace the Rams.
Marian got out to an early start building a commanding 22-11 lead early in the first set. The Rams would not go down easy as they won nine of the next eleven points to battle back to a 24-20 score before a kill from Amber Baker sealed the first set for Marian. The second set would prove to be the tightest and most thrilling. The Rams played well early in the set while building a solid lead at 19-13 late in the second set. Marian would battle back this time and to tighten things up at 21-21 before a timeout was called by North Central. Back to back service errors moved the score to 23-23 before Grace Hart recorded a critical ace to give the Rams a 24-23 lead. Two kills from Marian switched the momentum and gave Marian the 25-24 lead. A critical block from Emma Middendorf tied the match up at 25-25 for the Rams before two kills in the next two points gave Marian the 27-25 advantage in a very hard fought set. The third set would not be as competitive as Marian would go on to win the set and match.
NORTH CENTRAL vs EDGEWOOD
In the match against Edgewood, the Rams fell behind early as Edgewood built a commanding 21-11 lead. Similar to other points throughout the day, the Rams would not go down easy. NCU would battle back winning six of the next eight points to tighten the set at 23-17 before the first set was sealed by a kill and an ace from Savannah Koester. The next two sets would prove to be difficult as Edgewood would post a .480 kill percentage in the second set while recording 15 kills in the third set as they took both sets by commanding 25-10 and 25-15 leads.
The Rams were led by sophomore Emma Middendorf in the match against Edgewood as she recorded seven kills in the match and 18 kills on the day. Maddie Stocker recorded 21 kills in the match for an impressive 34 dig total on the day in the Edgewood triangular.
The Rams will close out the 2017 season this week as they travel to St.Scholastica on Wednesday for a UMAC match before hosting Wisconsin-Superior in the final home match of the season on Friday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m.
