MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Women's Basketball earned a victory in their home opener on Friday afternoon by defeating Providence University-College 64-50 with solid defense and balanced scoring. Three Rams players notched double figure scoring on the night and the Rams defense forced 21 turnovers in the win.

Senior Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Cambridge Christian) led the Rams with 17 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Senior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) added 16 points and 5 steals. Sophomore Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) was the third Ram with double figures, scoring 12 points and pulling down 6 rebounds.

The Rams overcame a tough-nosed Providence University-College team that took a 6-0 lead to start the game. Providence would in front Emily Aleckson tied the game at 9-9 nearly seven minutes into the half. Less than 90 seconds later Jamie High scored to give the Rams an 11-9 lead the would hold onto for the next few minutes.

Providence tied the game 15-15 with 6:18 left in the half before Jorie Grenell hit an open three point shot seven seconds later. The Rams would lead the rest of the game. NCU took a 29-21 lead into the halftime break and then pushed the lead to double figures on their first posession of the half to grab control for good.

Senior point guards Juila Skeesick (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) nearly recorded a double-double with nine points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Sophomore Shelby Norman (Winstead, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) added seven points and six rebounds.

NCU also protected the ball well with 13 assists and just 6 turnovers while holding PUC to just 8 assists and forcing 21 turnovers.

The Rams return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. with a home match up with Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, N.D.).
