Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn.-- North Central took a lead into the locker room for the first time in this young 2014-15 season but could not turn that advantage into it's first win. Simpson College used a late surge to separate themselves from the Rams in a 69-59 win for the Storm.
North Central (0-4, 0-0 UMAC) outshot and out rebounded Simpson College (Indianola, Iowa) over the first twenty minutes to take a 30-24 lead into halftime. But after a three pointer opened the second half for the Rams, Simpson fought back to tie the game at 37-37 over the first 4 minutes.
The two teams would trade leads over the next ten minutes before Simpson would step in front for good with just less than six minutes remaining. Junior Luke Chafin (Dayton, Ohio/Troy Christian) scored with 1:37 left and junior Clarke Mossman (Conrad, Iowa/Marshalltown) nabbed a steal that Chafin converted into another jumper that got NCU to within 60-53. But that is as close as North Central would get in the final 80 seconds.
Luke Chafin scored 15 points to co-lead the Rams scoring as freshman Travis Voigt (Green Bay, Wis/N.E.W. Lutheran) also scored a career high 15 points along with 6 rebounds. Clarke Mossman scored 6 points and pulled down a team high 8 rebounds.
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday in a road, non-conference game. NCU will take on Wabash College (Crawfordsville, Ind.) at 7:30 p.m. The Little Giants of Wabash College are members of the Division III, North Coast Athletic Conference.
