NCU Soccer Teams Head To NCCAA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The North Central University Men's and Women's Soccer Teams are traveling to Ankeny, Iowa for the National Christian College Athletic Association North Central Region Tournament hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College on Friday and Saturday. The Men will take on #3 seed Faith Baptist at 3 p.m. Friday with the winner advancing to play #1 seed Providence College (Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada) Saturday at 3 p.m. The Rams Women captured the top seed in the Region and will await the winner of the first game between Faith Baptist and Providence. The Women's Championship is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The NCU Men and Faith Baptist played a pair of tight games in the middle of the regular season with NCU taking a 1-0 win in Ankeny on September 26 followed by a 0-0 tie at home in Coon Rapids on October 1. Despite scoring just the single goal the Rams dominated possession and scoring opportunities in both games outshooting the Eagles 35-7 in the first game and 24-5 in the second game. NCU Keeper Caleb Norman (White Bear Lake, Minn./Home School) made a total of 8 saves in the two games and Zach Claussen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji)) scored the lone goal for NCU. Claussen was recently named the NCCAA Men's Soccer National Athlete of the Week after his three-goal performance against Finlandia University (Hancock, Mich.).

The NCU Women will await the winner of the Friday's 1 p.m. game between Faith Baptist and Providence. The Rams dominated two games with the Faith Baptist Eagles winning 5-0 and 2-0. The Rams traveled to Providence College early in the season on September 10-11 and lost a pair of very close, hard-fought matches to the Freeman 1-0 and 3-2.

The Men's and Women's NCCAA Division II National Soccer Championship will be held November 10-13, 2010 at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
