NCU Splits AGCU Classic Games; Womeldorf MVP

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central split a pair of games at the 2011 Assemblies of God Credit Union Classic hosted by Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri over the weekend. Thursday NCU earned a 79-52 win over Trinity Bible College and lost 72-47 to Valley Forge Christian College in the championship game on Saturday. Shoshana Womeldorf and Elisabeth Trickey were each named to the All-Tournament team and Womeldorf was selected by the participating coaches as the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Thursday's game saw NCU take control in the first half verses Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, N.D.). The Rams opened up a double-digit lead early on and went to the half time locker rooms up 33-27. NCU opened up the second half by extending their lead and pulling away from Trinity for the win. With the victory NCU got their first NCCAA DII North Central Region victory and move to the top of the region. NCU got balanced scoring as four players recorded double figures. Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Mnn./Spring Lake Park) led NCU with 18 points and Julia Skeesick (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) added 15. Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and Shoshana Womeldorf (Lanesboro, Minn./Lanesboro) each scored 12 points in the victory.

Saturday NCU faced off with NCCAA DII second ranked Valley Forge Christian College (Phoenixville, Pa.) and after battling to a tied score at halftime, were doomed by a lengthy cold shooting streak from the floor. Valley Forge pulled away during that scoring drought for a 72-47 victory. Shoshana Womeldorf led NCU with 12 points and Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Cambridge Christian)scored a career best 10 points. Charity Bowers (Milwaukee, Wis./Heritage Christian) scored 9 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Shoshana Womeldorf was awarded the the tournament MVP award as voted by the coaches and Elisabeth Trickey joined her on the all-tournament team. Womeldorf averaged 12 points, 2 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game in the tournament while Trickey averaged 10 points, 5.5 boards, 4.5 assists, and 5.5 steals per game in AGCU play.

NCU returns to action tonight on the road at Crown College (St Bonifacius, Minn.) at 5.30 pm.
