Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central University Men's Soccer claimed a 1-0 double overtime victory over Northland College at home on Saturday morning. The Rams and Lumberjacks played an even first 90 minutes of regulation and all the way through the first 10 minute overtime period before a penalty kick conversion gave NCU their third conference win of the year.
In a match where Northland and North Central combined for 21 fouls, 3 yellow cards and a red card it was the final foul that gave NCU the chance it needed to claim the win.
Northland received a red card in the 101st minute to put sophomore forward Christian Stepaniak (Woodbury, Minn./Maranatha Christian) on the penalty spot and he converted for his team leading eighth goal of the year. The penalty kick was the first of the year for NCU who had yet to get a PK through their first 14 matches of the season.
Junior goal keeper Nathan Kraines (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and the Rams defense pitched their second shutout of the week. Kraines recorded seven saves in North Central's fifth clean sheet of the season.
All five of NCU's wins this season have come via a shutout performance.
North Central moves to 5-9-1 overall and 3-7 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Rams will be off until next weekend when they host Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.) and Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.). Friday afternoon NCU hosts MLC at 1 p.m. Saturday the Rams host Bethany Lutheran at Noon.
