Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- A bigger and stronger Mayville State team proved too much for North Central University Women's Basketball at home on Saturday afternoon. NCU stayed within ten points for the the first 30 minutes before Mayville was able to pull away for a 71-51 win over the Rams in their final game of the 2012 portion of their schedule.
North Central (4-6, 0-0) found themselves down 36-28 at the break and never trailed by more than 12 through the first 20 minutes against Mayville State University (Mayville, N.D.), an NAIA school that came in boasting a 10-1 mark on the year.
NCU got to within 36-30 a bit more than one minute into the second half but that would be as close as they could get for the rest of the game. A jumper from sophomore Melissa Kidd (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) pulled the Rams to within 54-44 at the 10:35 mark but Comets then surged to put the game out of reach.
Junior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) led NCU with 16 points. Senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) scored 11 points, pulled down a team high 7 rebounds, and nabbed 4 steals.
Junior Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Cambridge Christian) reached double figures for the third straight game with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn/Buffalo) had six points and seven rebounds. Melissa Kidd ahd four poitns and six rebounds.
North Central will now enjoy the Christmas break before returning to action with their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game of the year on January 8. The Rams will travel to Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.) for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Erickson Center.
