Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- After a pair of disappointing losses in their last two games the North Central University Women's Basketball team bounced back with a 78-28 win over Faith Baptist Bible College on Saturday night. The Rams used strong defense and well-rounded scoring to pull away from the Eagles for their second NCCAA regional victory of the season.
After leading 30-17 at halftime the Rams held Faith Baptist (Ankeny, Iowa) to just three field goals over the 13 minutes of the second half to complete a decisive run and put the game away. NCU recorded 14 second half steals and held the Eagles to just 5-31 shooting from the floor. Equally important to the victory was commiting just four turnovers in the final 20 minutes to end a stretch of games where NCU had more turnovers than assists.
Overall the victory was a team effort with every player recording a minimum of 13 minutes and no one playing more than 27. Nine of the ten Rams players scored and three reached double figures.
Junior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) led the balanced attack with 17 points and 4 steals. Senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn.) recorded 13 points and 6 steals. Junior Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Cambridge Christian) had 10 points.
Senior Heidee Kollenda (Menominee, Mich./Menominee) pulled down a team high 11 rebounds and added 7 points. Off the bench, Junior Amanda Olson (New Hope, Minn./Fourth Baptist) added nine points with freshman Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) adding seven points and three steals.
For the game NCU recorded 26 steals and held Faith to 12-56 shooting from the floor.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.) at 5:30 p.m.
