Volleyball Still Searching for League Wins

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central University Women's Volleyball is still searching for their first conference win of the year after going down in straight sets in three weekend league matches. Friday the Rams were defeated by Bethany Lutheran College before being knocked off by Martin Luther College and Northwestern College on Saturday.

Friday the Rams hosted Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) for their first home conference match of the season. The Vikings defeated NCU 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-11) for their second conference win of the year. 

Senior Mariah Simonson (Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) led NCU with nine killsand two block assists. Freshman Karlee Cox (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel) recorded five kills and two service aces. Sophomore Veronica Parks (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) had a team high 14 digs.

Saturday NCU hosted Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.) and the Knights showed why they are currently among the best teams in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).  MLC swept NCU 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-20) on their way to earning second place in the UMAC standings after two weekends of league play. 

Mariah Simonson led NCU with 5 kills. Veronica Parks had 11 digs.

North Central completed their weekend by traveling across town to play Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.) for the back half a double header created by some unique scheduling circumstances. The top team in the UMAC also powered past NCU with a 3-0 victory (25-6, 25-6, 25-30).

Mariah Simonson had seven kills and four digs in the loss. 

The Rams will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Hamline University (St. Paul, Minn.) for their final non-conference match of the season against the Pipers of the NCAA Division III Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
