Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- North Central traveled to Fargo, N.D. to take on Providence College in a neutral site NCCAA Division II regional game on Friday night and earned a 1-1 draw with the Freeman. The game was played at the Pepsi Soccer Complex and featured the two teams that played in the NCCAA Division II North Central Region Final last year.
Providence struck early with a goal in the 9th minute but the two teams played scoreless for the remainder of the first half and through the first portion of the second half. Then in the 64th minute freshman Nick Wiese scored his third goal of the season on an assist from Stephen Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./South) and Christian Stepaniak (Woodbury, Minn./Maranatha Academy).
That goal would hold up through two overtime periods as North Central would earn a draw with the Freeman. The Freeman outshot NCU 22-18 but the Rams earned an edge in shots on frame by a 10-7 margin.
North Central moves to 1-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in NCCAA region play. The Rams will be back in action today at 2 p.m. with another neutral site game against NAIA opponent Dakota Wesleyan University (Mitchell, S.D.). The game is being played at Jamestown College (Jamestown, N.D.).
