Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- After the first week of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play the North Central University Women's Basketball team is still in search of their first league win. With three conference losses last week the Rams will try to snap an overall four game losing streak that dates back over the holiday break to December 13. NCU will get that chance as they take the court on Friday and Saturday for a UMAC weekend doubleheader.
North Central (3-9, 0-3) is looking for their first win since defeating Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) by a 75-37 final tally in Ankeny on December 13. Since that time the Rams are 0-4 including losses to Mayville State University (Mayville, N.D.), Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.), Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) and Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.). The last three losses were all in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with all three taking place last week in the Rams first action of the spring semester.
Friday the Rams travel to Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) for their fourth UMAC game of the year and the beginning of their second weekend, league doubleheader of the season. NCU and Crown (1-3, 0-3) are currently at the bottom of the UMAC standings earning seventh and eighth places after the first week of league action. The Storm were also swept in their first three UMAC games of the year including a 100-56 loss at St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) last Saturday.
Crown features the leading scorer in the league thus far in senior Judy Mundt (Utica, Minn./Lewiston-Altura) who averages 19.6 points a contest. NCU swept the Storm in both meetings between the teams in 2011-12. NCU and Crown will tip off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday the Rams will travel to the University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.) for a game versus the defending UMAC Champion. The Cougars are currently 3-0 in league play with a 5-7 overall mark after being picked number one in the UMAC preseason coaches poll. The Cougars will come into Saturday's match up with NCU after hosting Northwestern College on Friday. NWC is also currently 3-0 in league play and the winner of Friday's game will take sole possesion of first place.
Minnesota-Morris is led by the fifth best scorer in the league thus far in sophomore Kendra Wycoff (Montrose, Minn./Buffalo) who averages 14.0 points a contest. Junior forward Abby Fragodt (Benson, Minn./Benson) leads the UMAC with 10.1 rebounds a game. The Cougars swept NCU in both games between the teams in 2011-12. NCU and UMM will tip off at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Currently the Rams are lead in scoring by junior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) who averages 13.6 points per game which ranks her sixth in the league. Senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) leads the UMAC in steals per game with an average of 4.0 per contest while averaging 10.8 points a game, 11th best in the league.
