Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- After battling to stay within reach for the first half, North Central Women's Basketball fell behind by double digits early in the second half in a home loss to The College of St. Scholastica on Saturday evening. The Rams were within two posessions for most of the first 20 mintues of action before the Saints slowly pulled way throughout the second half in a 76-54 contest in Clark-Danielson Gymnasium.
The Rams (5-12, 1-6) were within reach at halftime and looked to be in position to stay with The College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) going into the halftime break. A steal and lay-in by freshman Shelby Norman (Winsted, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) cut the lead to 34-28 heading into the locker room.
But over the first five minutes of the second half St. Scholastica (7-10, 4-3) pushed the lead to 43-33. NCU would be within single digits just one more time in the game when junior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) went 1-2 at the free throw line to cut the deficit to 43-34 at 15:09 left in the game.
NCU got a lay-in from junior Julia Skeesick (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) at the 13:52 mark to make it a 47-37 game but that would be as close as the Rams could get for the duration of the game.
The Rams got a career best 15 points from Shelby Norman including 3-4 from behind the three point line. Freshman Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) added 14 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Julia Skeesick added 8 points.
The Rams will be back in action again on Tuesday with a home game versus Northwestern College (St. Paul, Minn.). NCU and Northwestern will tip off their second meeting in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 5:30 p.m.
