Box Score Minneapolis, Minn - North Central Men's Soccer team went toe to toe with the University of Northwestern Eagles but a pair of second half penalty kicks would be the difference maker and the Eagles defeated the Rams by a score of 2-0.
The Rams and Eagles played a back and forth scoreless first half with both teams unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The second half began the same way until the 59th minute when a Ram's defender was called for a handball in the box which led to a Northwestern penalty kick. The Eagles would capitalize and maintain that 1-0 lead for the next 30 minutes.
It looked as if an equalizer may be in store for Northcentral but a slide tackle in the box would lead to yet another Eagles penalty kick in the 88th minute. Senior keeper Nathan Kraines (Eden Prairie, Minn/Eden Prairie) made a great diving effort to get his fingertips on the ball but it trickled by him and into the net to give Northwestern the 2-0 win.
The Rams will have to wait another week to capture that first conference win. North Central will host Northland College next Friday, October 18th. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:15 pm.
