Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- The team standing at the top of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference flexed its muscle against North Central University Women's Basketball on Friday night. The University of Minnesota-Morris pulled away midway through the first half and cruised to a 82-14 victory over North Central in CLC Gymnasium.
At the 10:13 mark of the first half The University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.) led North Central (4-14, 1-8) just 19-17. Over the next two minutes neither team could score in two possessions but when Morris got another field goal with 7:43 mark that began a Cougars run that NCU could not keep up with for the rest of the game.
Morris (12-7, 9-0) wrapped up the half on a 21-4 run that set the half time deficit for NCU at 42-21. UMM fired 19-33 (.576) from the floor in the first half.
The Rams fortunes did not improve in the second half and Morris continued to pull away for their ninth league win and maintain their place at the top of the UMAC standings.
NCU was led by senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) and sophomore Melissa Kidd (Spring Lake Park, Minn./Spring Lake Park) who each scored 10 points. Kidd recorded a team high seven rebounds.
North Central will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they host Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.). The Rams only UMAC victory thus far came at Crown College on January 18 by an 85-56 final score.
