MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- After the opening weekend of action in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Women's Tennis will still be looking for their first victory both in match play and in overall team competition. The Rams were respectively swept 9-0 by The College of St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran College on Friday and Saturday.
Friday afternoon the Rams traveled north to face The College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.). NCU was swept in straight sets in all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. The Saints are the defending Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Champions and have won all every league title in the 16 year history of the conference.
Saturday the Rams were more competitive but stil could not find the needed play to get in the win column in a 9-0 loss to Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Freshman Katrina Cox (Groveland, Fla./South Lake) was defeated 6-0, 6-1 in number two singles. Nicole Demuth (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) was knocked off 6-1, 6-0 in number three singles. Senior Bethany Bostron (Spicer, Minn./Bostron Academy) nearly got the Rams first set victory of the year but fell 6-1, 7-5 in number five singles action. Freshman Sarah Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) was defeated 6-1, 6-0 in number six singles.
Trickey and Bostron were defeated 8-3 in number three doubles action.
NCU will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the University of Minnesota-Morris at the Baseline Tennis Center at 7:30 p.m.
