Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- All good things come to an end and on Saturday night the North Central University Women's Basketball team had their season wrap up at the NCCAA National Championship tournament. NCU was not able to overcome Trinity Bible College in the national seventh place game. The Rams were able to fight through key injuries and various other set backs to reach the national tournament but ended the year going 0-3 in the event.
North Central (10-20) fell behind big by the midway point of the second half in Saturday's NCCAA seventh place game but showed the same resolve they had all year to fight back to within 38-27 at halftime. NCU was able to get the Lions lead down to under 10 several times in the second half before TBC was able to finally pull away to secure the victory.
In her final game in a North Central uniform senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) led NCU with 16 points. Freshman Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) recorded her second straight double-double in the NCCAA tournament 11 points and 13 rebounds along with 4 assists and 4 blocked shots.
Junior Emily Aleckson (Braham, Minn./Braham) was also in double digit scoring territory with 10 points. Junior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park )added 9 points while junior Julia Skeesick (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) added 7 points and 5 assists.
In a great gesture by Coach Jeff Grenell, senior Christina Goodman (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) was a starter in what would be her final game in a Rams uniform. Goodman was not able to play because of a serious leg injury that endangered her ability to walk normally following a slide tackle while playing in the NCCAA National soccer tournament. She is recovering fully from that injury but was not able to play basketball her senior season. Goodman began the game on the floor but was removed shortly after the opening tip-off.
Elisabeth Trickey wrapped up one of the best careers in the history of NCU Women's Basketball. Trickey scored nearly 1300 points her career and owns the program all time steals record. She is among the top six in career scoring assists, made free throws and rebounds.
