Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn.-- North Central University Softball wrapped up its first season of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference membership with a .500 performance at the league cross-over double header weekend. All eight league members were in action in a pair of split double headers hosted by Martin Luther College on Friday and Saturday night.
North Central (7-20, 5-16) won both of its games on Friday by defeating Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.) 6-5 and knocking off Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) 5-4. With the win over Martin Luther NCU took two of three conference games with the fourth place Knights this season. The win over Crown gave NCU a season sweep of the Storm.
In game one senior Elisabeth Trickey (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) was 4-5 at the plate and scored a pair of runs. Freshman Rachel Thearin (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) was 2-4 with a double. Freshman Megan Myers (Cannon Fals, Minn./Randolf) was 1-4 with a double and 3 RBI.
Game two was highlighted by senior Bethany Bostron (Spicer, Minn./Bostron Academy) earning the victory in the circle, allowing four earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Senior Hannah Gordon was 2-4 with a double. Rachel Thearin was 2-3 wtih an RBI double. Megan Myers was 1-4 with an RBI double. Sophomore Keshia Carpentier (Coon Rapids, Minn./Anoka-Ramsey CC) was 2-3.
Saturday the Rams fell victim to a bad first inning where they allowed seven runs from Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.). NCU was able to only get one run back in a 7-1 loss to the Vikings. Elisabeth Trickey was 3-4 with the Rams only RBI.
Game two on Saturday saw NCU take on The University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.). NCU fell 11-5 to the Cougars in the season finale for the Rams. Each team managed 11 hits but the Rams could not piece together scoring to keep pace with the third place Cougars. In her final game in Navy and Vegas Hannah Gordon was 2-3 with a pair of doubles. Sophomore Paisley Bennett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) was 2-4 with 3 RBI. Bethany Bostron was 2-4 with a stolen base while Rachel Thearin was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
North Central ended the year with a seventh place finish in the UMAC standings.
