MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Women's soccer got an equalizing goal just past the hour mark but ended up on the short end of a 2-1 overtime loss to the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders on Friday aftenroon. The Rams gave up an early goal but kept Maranatha off the board until a game winner found the back of the net in the 98th minute.
North Central (1-4, 0-0) fell behind 1-0 just over 90 seconds into the match but ended up trailing by that same margin through the hour mark. In the 62nd minute sophomore Shelby Norman (Winstead, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) equalized with her second goal of the year on an assist from fellow sophomore Karlee Hoover (Estero, Fla./Estero). It was Hoover's second assist of the season.
The Rams held things scoreless for the final half hour and the teams headed into overtime. It looked like there might be a second ten minutes of extra time before Maranatha Baptist (Watertown, Wis.) notched the game winner in the 98th minute.
Hoover and Norman are now tied for the team scoring lead with four points each.
North Central will be back in action next Friday when they host Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) at 4:15 p.m. at Coon Rapids Soccer Complex. The match will be the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
