MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Women's Soccer opened up their 2013-14 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference schedule Friday afternoon in Coon Rapids by hosting Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn). The Rams could not keep up with the Vikings and were defeated 3-1.
North Central (1-5-0, 0-1-0) fell behind in the 13th minute on an unnassisted goal. This would be the lone goal of the half as the Vikings went into the break with the 1-0 lead.
The Vikings got on the board again 12 minutes into the second half as Taylor Friehl scored her second goal of the game. North Central quickly countered with a goal of their own just four minutes later when sophomore Shelby Norman (Winstead, Minn/Watertown-Mayer) scored off a beautiful through ball from senior Alyssa Freitag (Lakeville, Minn/Lakeville North). This was Norman's team leading third goal of the season.
The Rams would finish off a strong second half but a third goal by the Vikings in the 78th minute proved to be too much as the game ended with a 3-1 score.
Freshman keeper for the Rams Racheal Chant (Shakoppe, Minn/Bethany Academy) recorded a season high 10 saves in the game.
North Central is back in action Saturday evening at 7:45 p.m. at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis as they play host to Martin Luther (New Ulm, Minn). The Knights opened up their conference play Friday evening by defeating Northwestern College by a score of 5-3.
