Box Score Minneapolis, MN-- The North Central volleyball team played host to Northland College Friday night and defeated the Lumberjills 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-17).
Friday night's game was the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opener for the Rams (4-11, 1-0); the win against Northland (1-10, 0-1) was the fourth of the season doubling their win total from the year before. NCU won the first set 25-20 as the teams traded points throughout the game and the Rams pulled away late. The team was led by sophomore Sarah Trickey (Waseca, MN/ Waseca) who recorded two kills and seven digs in the first set.
The Rams pulled away to an early lead in set two only to see the Lumberjills (Ashland, WI) fight back and take the lead late in game two. NCU was able to hold on however as they won the set 28-26. The Rams were led by UMAC Player of the Week sophomore Jamie High (Buffalo, MN/ Buffalo) as she recorded a team-high five kills in the set.
Set three was controlled by the Rams as they finished off the match winning the game 25-17. Jamie High once again led the team with five kills. The Rams recorded 12 kills in the set on 26 total attacks (.370 pct).
Overall, High finished the contest with a team-high 12 kills. Sophomore Whitney Reames (Vassar, MI/ Vasser) recorded a season-high six kills in the match. Freshman Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, MN/ Concordia Academy) solidified the Rams frontline attack with 19 assists.
North Central returns to action on saturday as they play host to College of Saint Scholastica (Duluth, MN) at 1pm in the Clark-Danielson Gymnasium. The Rams then travel to the University of Northwestern- St. Paul (St. Paul, MN) for a 7pm matchup.
