Box Score 2 Minneapolis, MN-- North Central University Volleyball took on two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference powerhouses on Saturday and lost both matches in straight sets.
The Rams played host to the College of Saint Scholastica (Duluth, MN) in game one and lost 3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-16) at Clark-Danielson Gymasium. Then the team traveled to the University of Northwestern- St. Paul (St. Paul, MN) in game two and lost 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-8).
North Central (4-12, 1-1) lost their first conference game of the season as the Saints (4-7, 1-1) won all three sets convincingly. The Rams were led by sophomore Jamie High (Buffalo, MN/ Buffalo) who recorded a team-high seven kills and one block. Sophomore Sarah Trickey (Waseca, MN/ Waseca) added five kills of her own and also a team-high ten digs. North Central had a strong defensive effort from sophomore Crystal Goutierez (Lakeville, MN/ Christian Life) and sophomore Whitney Reames (Vassar, MI/ Vassar) as they both contributed six digs in the contest.
In game two, the Rams (4-13, 1-2) faced off against the preseason UMAC favorites, the Northwestern Eagles (7-9, 3-0). Northwestern defeated St. Scholastica in straight sets the night before, and took down NCU in similar fashion on Saturday. The Rams were silented offenisively as the team recorded 12 kills and 15 errors on 77 total attacks (-.039 pct). North Central was once again led by Jamie High as she recorded a team-high four kills and nine digs in the contest.
North Central continues UMAC conference play this Friday as they travel to Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, MN) for a 7pm matchup.
