MILWAUKEE, Wis.-- Following a lengthy weather delay due to a lightning storm that sat over the Milwaukee area on Saturday morning NCU got in the win column for the first time in 2013. A delay that neared 45 minutes and pushed a scheduled late morning start into the early afternoon did not stop the Rams from getting a 2-0 road victory over Mount Mary College.
North Central (1-2-0, 0-0-0) and Mt. Mary College (Milwaukee, Wis.) played a scoreless first 45 mintues that saw each team post five shots. The score line would remain empty until nearly an hour had passed and the Rams got their offense going.
Sophomore Shelby Norman (Winsted, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) opened her 2013 account with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute when a deflected ball came to her feet at the right post and she knocked the ball across the box into the left side netting.
Shortly after Norman's tally sophomore Karlee Hoover (Estero, Fla./Estero) made sure the first goal NCU would stand as the game winner. Senior Marissa Dean (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) crossed a ball in and Hoover knocked it home in the 64th minute to assure the Rams first victory of the year.
Freshman Rachael Chant (Shakopee, Minn./Bethany Academy) recorded four saves in her first college shutout in net.
North Central outshot the Angels 11-8.
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior (Superior, Wis.) at 4 p.m. at Coon Rapids Soccer Complex.
