High Leads Rams in Strong Win over LumberJills

Box Score

ASHLAND, Wis.-- Women's Basketball began their weekend road trip by defeating Northland College 54-47 on Friday night in Ashland. Jorie Grenell got off to a fast start and Jamie High recorded an impressive double-double night to help the Rams stay in front the whole way versus a tough LumberJills team to earn their second Upper Midwest Athletic Conference win of the year.

Senior Jorie Grenell (Lakeville, Minn./Spring Lake Park) scored seven of the Rams' first nine points to give NCU momentum and surpass 1300 points in her NCU career. North Central never trailed and after Northland College (Ashland, Wis.) got to within 9-8 less than 4 minutes into the game they would never be within three the rest of the way after the midway point of the first half. Both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes right before halftime before each team scored in the final 30 seconds to make it 27-18 at the break.

The Rams and Jills would trade runs that saw NCU earn 12 and 14 point advantages before Northland responded to get within 6 or 7. North Central would earn a 51-37 advantage with around 6 minutes left in the game before they held off a final Jills run and took home a well-earned road UMAC victory.

Sophomore Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) continued her fantastic second season in a Rams uniform by tagging the LumberJills with a game high 17 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. High is one of just two players in the UMAC averaging a double-double per contest.

Jorie Grenell moved to 1310 career points after pouring in 14 points against Northland on Friday night. That mark is currenly 4th and is less than 120 points from the all time scoring record.

Senior point guard Julia Skeesick (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) continued her impressive season by scoring 10 points and handing out 8 assists. She is currently tops in the UMAC with 5.9 helpers per game.

North Central will be back in action at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon when they take on the first place Saints of The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.
