Box Score ASHLAND, Wis.-- North Central traveled to the shores of Lake Superior for a rematch with Northland College. They experienced the same result of their initial match with the Lumberjacks in mid-September. The Rams fell 2-1 in double-overtime after having the better of play for long stretches of the game.
The Rams fell behind in the middle of the second half after they failed to clear a corner kick and Northland College (Ashland, Wis.) pounced to take a 1-0 in the 74th minute. But less than 10 minutes later sophomore Jacob Salem (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) scored on a assist from sophomore Ryan Windauer (Polson, Mont./MVCA) in the 84th minute to even the match.
With time winding down in regular time the Rams got a great chance to score but a shot across the face of the net from junior David Afolabi (Champlin Park, Minn./Itasca Community College) narrowly missed and the Jacks would eventually capitalize on the missed chance. The Rams created several more good chances and outshot Northland 3-0 in the first overtime but did not convert.
North Central kept the pressure on during the first part of the second overtime but on their only shot in ovetime, the Lumberjacks tallied to clinch the season sweep over NCU in conference play. The Rams outshot Northland 16-6 with a 7-4 difference in shots on frame.
North Central will return to action tomorrow with another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference road match. The Rams will kickoff with The College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) at Noon.
