MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Women's Soccer earned a spot in the National Christian College Athletic Association Regional Final on Wednesday afternoon by jumping out early in Tuesday's semi-final match versus Faith Baptist Bible College. A pair of goals in the first fifteen minutes would prove to be enough for the Rams to defeat the Eagles and advance to the region final where they will take on Providence University-College.
North Central got a brace from junior Shelby Norman (Winstead, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) in a stretch of less than four minutes that would prove to be the deciding factor in the match. Norman scored the eventual game winner on an assist from senior Megan Kaczmarek (Green Bay, Wis./Pulaski) on the stroke of the 11th minute. Then, in the 14th minute Norman carried the ball down the right flank and beat a defender into space inside the 18 yard box and was fouled a few steps inside the penalty area. The official pointed to the spot and Norman converted the PK with a nice placement in the lower left corner to make it 2-0.
Possession throughout the rest of the next 75 minutes was mostly controlled by North Central as the Rams outshot Faith Baptist 12-1. Nine of the Rams shots were on frame and freshman keeper Taylor Patch (Bismarck, N.D./Century) saved the lone Eagles shot she faced.
North Central will take on defending NCCAA regional champion Providence University-College (Otterburne, Manitoba) at Noon on Wednesday. The championship match will be held at Coon Rapids Soccer Complex.
The pair of goals scored by Shelby Norman moved her to fifth on the NCU all-time goal scorers list. She is currently tied for fifth with Rams assistant coach Jennifer Cline.
