Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn.-- North Central traveled north for a split double-header in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Tuesday. The Rams could not get their bats going and were defeated by Northland College and The College of St. Scholastica in a pair of games hosted by the Saints.
Game one saw the Rams get in front 1-0 after two innings but gave up four in the third and four in the sixth wrapped around a pair of Lumberjills runs in the fourth in a 10-1 loss in six innings. NCU opened the scoring in game one when sophomore Holly Pieper (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) led off by reaching on an error. Sophomore Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) then reached on a fielders choice but Pieper was safe at second on an error by the shortstop. Senior Paisley Bennett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) then grounded out to the shortstop to move the runners up a spot. Sophomore Amanda Johnson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) then grounded out to second but Pieper was able to score for the Rams only tally in the game. Senior Keshia Carpentier (Coon Rapids, Minn./Anoka Ramsey CC) was the only other Ram to record a hit on the day with a double in the fifth inning.
Game two was not any better for North Central as The College of St. Scholastica (Duluth, Minn.) blasted the Rams for 12 runs in the first and it was never close after that in a 22-1 five inning loss for NCU. The Saints pounded out 11 hits in the first frame for 12 earned runs.
The lone highlight of the second game for NCU game when sophomore Megan Myers (Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolf) blasted one-out, solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first. Keshia Carpentier recorded the only other hit for NCU in the game.
North Central will be back in Duluth on Saturday to complete their season series with St. Scholastica. The Rams and Saints will get their double-header started at 1 p.m.
