Volleyball Loses Five Set Heartbreaker

Box Score

Minneapolis, Minn.-- The North Central Volleyball team played another dramatic five set match Friday afternoon, but this time the Rams fell short, losing to Crown College (St. Bonafacius, Minn.) 3-2.

The Rams (3-7, 0-1) battled back from two sets down as they won the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-23; before dropping the fifth set 15-7.

Karlee Huber (Rapid City, S.D. / Dakota Wesleyan Univ.) led the way for the Rams with a team-high 15 kills in the match. The sophomore also tied for the team lead with 22 digs. Sophomore Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, Minn / Concordia Academy) continued to set up her teammates with a game-high 43 assists to go along with 12 digs in the contest.

Junior Karlee Cox (Des Moines, Iowa / Saydel) had a great match defending the net as she had one solo block and one block assist to go along with her 11 kills and a game-high kill percentage of .308.

Freshman Sarah Hundeby (Elbow, Saskatchewan / Caronport) had 22 digs in the contest to go along with five kills. Junior Whitney Reames (Vassar, Mich. / Vassar) also played well defensively with 17 digs in the loss to the Storm (2-8, 1-0).

North Central dominated the third and fourth sets as they had 25 kills to only 13 errors. But the momentum couldn't carry over to the fifth set as the Rams six errors were too much to overcome.

NCU continues play tomorrow as they take on the University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.) at 1p.m. and then welcome the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (St. Paul, Minn.) to Clark-Danielson Gymnasium for a 6p.m. match.
