Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn.-- Women's Basketball led with less than a minute left but a pair of turnovers and a few tough breaks ended up costing the Rams a victory. Crown College defeated North Central 57-55 in St. Bonifacius on Saturday evening.
North Central (5-12, 1-6 UMAC) and Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) engaged in a back and forth game for the full 40 minutes on Saturday. The game included five ties and eight lead changes the last of which will haunt the Rams.
The Rams led 55-53 with less than 90 seconds left when the Rams missed a lay-up, got the rebound and missed a three point shot. After the Storm got the rebound the Rams stole the ball but an errant pass led to a break away lay-up that tied the game at 55-55 with 32 seconds left.
With the game tied the Rams had the chance to take the lead but the Storm created a turnover and were awarded free throws with 18 seconds left that were converted to make it 57-55. North Central tried to get a shot off near the rim with a few seconds left but Crown tied up the ball under the hoop as time expired.
Junior Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) played an inspired game with 24 points and 16 rebounds one night after injuring her wrist diving for a lose ball. Freshman Lizzy Swanson (Askov, Minn./East Central) added 11 points.
The Rams lost on Saturday despite making the same amount of field goals as Crown on 17 less attempts and earning a 44-44 draw on the glass. The difference proved to be Crown shooting nine more free throws than the Rams and North Central being whistled for seven more fouls. NCU shot just 9-16 while Crown was 16-27 at the charity stripe.
The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday when they host The University Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.) in a game that marks the second portion of round robin play in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. The Rams and Eagles are set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
