Record Third UMAC Player of the Week Award Bestowed on Sparrman

ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced it's Player of the Week Awards on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a collection of great performances around the league by several players, the continued torrid scoring pace of Dakotah Sparrman earned the striker her third UMAC Offensive Player of the Week nod.

Several players around the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference posted great weeks last week but junior sophomore Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattock-St. Mary) continued to be a force in front of net on the way to her third offensive player of the week accolade. Sparrman notched four goals and an assist in a pair of conference games last week.

Wednesday, Sparrman put home a pair of goals against the University of Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), keeping the Rams close on the scoreboard in a 3-2 loss to the first place Eagles. On Saturday Sparrman made sure her team got off to a rocket start against Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.).

She posted an assist on the Rams opening salvo in the third minute and built the lead to 2-0 with a goal of her own on a screamer left to right across the front of the goal to bottom corner in the tenth minute. MLC would charge back to tie the game but Sparrman collected a loose ball, created enough space and turned to fire a screamer from outside the 18 yard box just under the crossbar. That goal in the 75th minute would make it 3-2 in favor of the Rams and it would stand as the game winner.

Sparrman currently sits at 20 goals and 43 points this season, both NCU single season records. Those results also have her currently third in the nation NCAA Division III and tops in NCCAA Division II. With this week's player of the week award, Sparrman is also the first athlete in an NCU sport to be recognized three times in one season.

Sparrman and the Rams take on Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) at 5 p.m. Saturday the Rams travel to Northland College (Ashland, Wis.) for 1 p.m. kickoff.
