Box Score ANKENY, Iowa-- Men's Soccer a earned hard fough victory over Faith Baptist Bible College on Thursday night. The road win over the Eagles keeps the Rams unbeaten in October and secures the top seed in the NCCAA Regional Tournament.
North Central (5-7-2, 3-4-1 UMAC) had an edge in most statistical categories and controlled much of the game action for the first 70 minutes. The Rams posted a 10-2 shot advantage through the first half and finally got a breakthrough goal in the 69th minute when junior Steven Klapak (Kenosha, Wis./Christian Life) scored to give NCU a 1-0 lead.
That goal seemed to awaken the host Eagles who came into the game as the seventh ranked team in the NCCAA with an 11-1 record. They began to gather more possession but the Rams defense and junior goalkeeper Andrew Eliason (Milan, Mich./Milan) was up to the task in keeping Faith Baptist off the board and completed his second shutout of the season.
Steven Klapak's game winner was his second of the week after he scored the game winner in overtime at Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) on Tuesday in a crucial UMAC league game. Those goals were his first and second of the season.
The Rams are back in action on Saturday in another important UMAC road game. NCU takes on Northland College (Ashland, Wis.) at 3:15 p.m. NCU is currently in the fifth and final UMAC playoff spot with two more weeks left in the regular season.
