Rams Take Regular Season Finale from Vikings

MANKATO, Minn.-- A bit of fortune and a strong second half helped the Rams to a 3-1 win over Bethany Lutheran College. The Rams rallied from down a goal to defeat the host Vikings on Tuesday night.

North Central (7-9-2, 4-4-1 UMAC) concluded their regular season with a 3-1 win at Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) on Tuesday. The Vikings opened the scoring in the ninth minute before the Rams would get a response in the in the 31st minute. Junior Steven Klapak (Kenosha, Wis./Christian Life) scored his third goal of the year on an assist from sophomore Jake Loukinen (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls) that equalized the match and changed the flow of the game. An own goal from Bethany Lutheran gave the Rams a 2-1 lead into the break.

The final scoreline was reached when Klapak fired home his first multiple goal performance with an 83rd minute tally. North Central had the best of the second half outshooting the Vikings 14-6 in the final 45 minutes.

The match played on Tuesday served as warm-up for both teams as they will soon meet again with much more on the line. Both teams already secured a spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference playoffs, North Central as the fourth seed and the Vikings as the fifth seed. They will meet on Monday at 2 p.m. at North Central with a berth in the league semi-final on the line. The fourth place league finish is the best in program history and Monday's match is also a program first as well.
