Box Score 2 Minneapolis- The North Central University Volleyball team competed in the National Christian College Athletic Association Regional Tournament on Friday.
The Rams (12-17) entered the tournament as the number two seed, as the regional event was hosted in Minneapolis on the NCU home floor.
In game one, North Central used the home court to their advantage as they swept Faith Baptist College (Ankeny, Iowa) 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-18) in front of 170 fans at Clark Danielson Gymnasium.
The Rams used 41 kills in the match and a hitting percentage of .141. 32 of those kills were assisted by Elissa Pheneger, who also recorded three service aces and 12 digs in the match.
The offensive attack was led by Karlee Huber, Anna Larson and Maddie Saice. Huber led the Rams with 13 kills to go along with her 16 digs. It marked the 15th double-double of Huber's season. Larson posted a team-high hitting percentage of .538 as she finished the match with seven kills and no errors. Saice was offensively efficient as well, as she posted ten kills and no errors on 23 total attacks (.435 hitting percentage).
In game number two, the Rams faced off against the Pilots of Providence University College (Manitoba, Canada), who entered the regional tournament as the number one seed.
North Central got out to an early lead in set one, as they used a hitting percentage of .250 to take a 24-20 lead. Unfortunately for the Rams, Providence (17-4) was able to score seven consecutive points to win the set 26-24.
NCU was unable to recover from there, as the Pilots overpowered North Central with a hitting percentage of .250 and 27 kills in the final two sets.
The Rams were led by Karlee Huber who posted a team high six kills and 15 digs.
With the win, Providence advances to the NCCAA National Tournament in Florida.
Three Rams were named to the North Central All-Region team. The honorees for the Rams were Elissa Pheneger, Karlee Huber, and Katie Strand.
North Central finishes their season Saturday afternoon as they host the Yellow Jackets of the University of Wisconsin Superior at 1 p.m.
