Box Score Minneapolis- The North Central University Volleyball team hosted the Yellow Jackets of the University of Wisconsin Superior on Saturday afternoon in their final match of the 2015 season.
After competing in the NCCAA Regional Championship game the night before, the Rams (12-18, 2-6) struggled throughout their match against Superior (18-13, 6-2) as the Yellow Jackets finished 42 kills to the Rams 17.
15 of those 17 North Central kills were assisted by Elissa Pheneger, as the junior finished the season with 885 assists. Pheneger ranks fourth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference with 7.51 assists per set. She will enter her senior season as the second ranked setter in school history and will be within 300 assists of the school record.
Two seniors competed in their final match in a Rams uniform on Saturday. Karlee Cox finished the game with three kills and only one error, as she was one of two Rams to finish the match with positive hitting percentage. Cox finished the season with a career-high total of 182 kills; giving her over 400 for her career.
The other senior was Whitney Reames, who dawned the libero jersey for her final two seasons as a Ram. Reames finished the contest with four digs and an assist, as she finished her 2015 campaign with 406 digs; giving her over 1,000 in her four years at North Central.
NCU was led offensively by Ashley Kelzer, who posted a team-high five kills in the loss. Sophomore Maddie Saice finished the match with a game-high three service aces.
Junior Karlee Huber, who is nursing a foot injury, finished the match with two kills; giving her 313 kills on the season. Huber ranks sixth in the UMAC with 3.06 kills per set.
North Central finishes the season with a 12-18 record, which is a five win improvement from 2014. This Rams team was the first in recent history to post two wins against both Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) and Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.). The Rams will be returning the majority of their lineup next season as they look for continued improvement under the leadership of head coach Stephanie Schmidt.
