Cox, Huber Not Enough for Volleyball to Overcome Knights

Minneapolis-- The North Central University Volleyball team continued conference play on Wednesday night as they hosted the Knights of Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.).

The Rams (6-12, 0-4) fought tough throughout the contest, as they won the second set 27-25 before falling in the match, 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 14-25, 25-27).

After recording a hitting percentage of .270 in the first set, the Rams fell behind 23-18 in set number two before going on a 9-2 run to win the set. North Central used a combination of offensive kills, along with attacking errors by Martin Luther (4-16, 3-1) to make the comeback.

Sophomore Anna Larson (Lakeville, Minn./Christian Life) ended the set with a service ace that brought the home crowd to its feet.

The Knights overpowered the Rams to win set number three, and then swatted away a furious Rams comeback in set number four to win their third conference match of the season.

The Rams were led offensively by Karlee Huber (Rapid City, S.D./Dakota Wesleyan Univ.) and Karlee Cox (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel). Huber finished the match with 13 kills, while Cox finished with 12 kills. North Central recorded a hitting percentage of .157 in the contest as they totaled 46 kills.

Defensively, North Central posted a season-high 12 block assists, while Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, Minn/Concordia Academy) recorded a team-high 12 digs. Libero, Whitney Reames (Vassar, Mich./Vassar) was second on the team with 10 digs, while Larson finished with nine.

Cox led the Rams with four block assists.

North Central continues action this Friday as they compete in the Finlandia University (Hancock, Mich.) Tournament. The Rams will open up play with a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Mount Mary University (Milwaukee, Wisc.).
