Rams Top Pipers in Overtime

MINNEAPOLIS-- Women's Basketball needed overtime to defeat Hamline University on Friday to earn their first win of the season. The Rams battled for the full 40 minutes all the way through the extra five minutes to earn an 70-64 win, giving head coach Paul Brunner his first career coaching victory.

North Central (1-2, 0-0 UMAC) kept within reach of Hamline University (St. Paul, Minn.) all night and the teams were never separated by more than eight points in either direction. The Rams trailed 27-26 at halftime but NCU would lead by five at the end of the third quarter.

With less than 90 seconds left in the game North Central got a huge game tying three pointer from sophomore Lizzy Swanson (Askov, Minn./East Central) that made it 59-59. The teams both missed on chances to break the tie in regulation.

The Rams fell behind to start the final five minutes but rallied to grab a lead midway through the extra frame and held on to take the victory.

Lizzy Swanson posted a game high 29 points while senior Jamie High (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) also strongly influenced the game with 24 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Rams will get back to work tomorrow at home verses Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, Iowa). Tip off between the Rams and Beavers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
