Box Score 3 PLYMOUTH, Minn.-- It was a rough day at the ball park for North Central University softball on Friday. The Rams dropped all three games in a triple-header at the end of their two day tournament played at the Plymouth Creek Dome.
Game one: NCU 10, Maranatha Baptist 14 - 7 innings
North Central (1-4, 0-0 UMAC) fell behind 5-2 through three innings before they seemed to take control in the fourth. After posting their first shutout inning of the game in the field they dropped a seven-run at bat on the Sabercats to take a 9-5 lead. The Rams used five hits and a pair walks walks in the rally that posted seven earned runs. However, North Central proceeded to return the favor the next inning by allowing eight runs on five hits to trail 14-9 they never seemed to recover the rest of the day.
Freshman Amanda Roth (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) was 3-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI. Freshman Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) was also 3-4 with a pair of doubles. Freshman Abbey Erzberger (Brookfield, Wis./Christian Heritage) was 1-2 with two walks and three runs scored.
Game two: NCU 4, Martin Luther 12 - 6 innings
In game two the Rams looked to bounce back but five errors in the field, two in the second inning kept North Central behind the Knights who pounded out 12 runs, just 4 earned, on 10 hits. NCU sent the Knights down in order in the first but left two runners on in their part of the inning and it was scoreless after one. But the Knights posted six unearned runs after the Rams committed an error on the first at bat and despite Amanda Roth getting the next two batters to strikeout, MLC got a double and a home run immediately after to begin a decisive rally.
North Central would get two back in the bottom of the second but the Knights posted two more in the third, fourth and sixth to wrap up the win. Junior Megan Myers (Cannon Falls, Minn./Randolf) was 2-3 with an RBI. Amanda Roth helped her own cause in the pitching circle by going 1-4 with an RBI double.
Game three: NCU 0, St. Catherine 31
North Central met the perfect storm in their final game of the day when they took on St. Catherine University (St. Paul, Minn.). A young Rams team with just three returners and no seniors never found any rhythm against a strong Wildcats team and were soundly defeated. North Central was the victim of perfect game and only two of their 15 outs did not come via a strikeout. North Central also commited five errors in the loss.
The Rams will now have over a week to prepare for their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference of the year on March 30. North Central is scheduled for a single game at The University of Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.). First pitch at Reynolds Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.
